Some say that the human mind has unlimited storage capacity, but is that really true? Is there an upper limit to how much information you can jam into your brain? Some neuro-scientists think not, but that is speculation. Not long ago a student of biology studying the brain said: “I was relieved to hear that there was no limit registered.” Referring to the amount of information the human brain could hold.
Actually, that may actually be not entirely correct, as idiot savants that have photographic type memory, do tend to run out, or get to a point they cannot do it anymore. There are documented cases of this occurring between ages 35-45 for idiot savants, but there also might be other reasons for this, like age issues.
Still, sometimes it pays to shed old stuff, otherwise you carry around endless junk, it’s okay to have that in the back of your mind, just not in any sort of active memory. All this old data may explain why some people have such great intuition, as they remember things unconsciously, while they are making decisions?
On another point, if the human brain did have unlimited storage then why does it discard old information, why doesn’t it remember everything crystal clear forever? Well, if it didn’t discard the old stuff, it might not be able to learn or make fast decisions because it would run through all the past scenarios each time it was up to bat. See that problem?
Most likely there is an upward limit to memory storage of the human mind, it’s just that we do not understand enough yet to prove it, although, I think from experience, since I own one of these little organic devices, one that works quite well, it appears to me that there is a limit to human memory. Now that might be a really good thing, not a bad one at all. Please consider all this.
